A shocking night in Christchurch

I am a half-a-world-away now ! Literally at the other side of the world. More precisely in Christchurch, New-Zealand. Can't get any further from home than this..
It's colder than Australia over here and the weather changes every ten minutes. cloudy, sunny, rain, windy.
(Auckland, NZ)

After spending some time in the Australian outback it was nice to feel raindrops falling on my face again. ' Rain over me Auckland!'
Auckland didn't impress me all that much it was basically the poor man's verion of Sydney. So aftera few days Ijumped on a plane and flew over to Christchurch,..
In February of '11 there was a major earthquake in Christchurch, killing 185 people and destroying the entire city.
And ever since there are regularly aftershocks of that earthquake. Some locals are still very scared.
At first very sad to see but they get alot of support from others. you can find hopeful messages all over Christchurch. And people don't give up on trying to rebuild their beloved hometown.
While I was there I went to the Canterbury Museum and the Ferrymead Heritage Park.
My last night in Christchurch was a night to remember;
It was about 4am when a loud noise and sudden shaking woke me and my roomies.
It took me a few second to realize what was going on.. everything wasshaking and it seemed as if there was a weird growling comingout of the earth, so freaky.. and this was just a little aftershok, Boahh!
Good luck Christchurch, I'm outta here.

Next Up; Queenstown, where I went rafting, hiking, camping and visited the great Milford Sound.. by cruize!

(rafting at the Shotover river)

(Milford Sound)

I was at lake Tekapo, lake Wakatipu and lake Te Anau.

(lake Wakatipu, Queenstown)

On my last days in NZ I was running out of money and I had to be creative and find cheap solutions for accommodation. So I put on my cowboy boots and went up to a farmer to ask if I could set up my tent on his land for a few nights.
No problem.
Nice to know; this piece of land was located right next to a graveyard.
Didn't bother me, I slept just fine. Just like my new neighbours.

My last two days in NZ I spent in rainy capital Wellington, to couchsurf with some locals.
On the very last day we visited the filmstudio's and production house WETA (the second largest visual effects company in the world, just after Pixar) of movie-director Peter Jackson, who produced Lord of the rings, Avatar, King Kong, Xena,.. and one of his latest projects our very own Belgian friend Tin Tin!
I even caught a glimps of the set were they are filming the 'The hobbit'
There are working over 3000 people on that movie.
It took almost eight(!) years to create the Lord of the rings trilogy.

(birthplace of Smeagol)

(behind me: the making of 'The Hobbit')

And it was mind blowing. What a fantastic last day!

After that we ate a KingKong-burger and then I hopped on my, in Quantas colors painted -Boeing 747, for a travel of in total thirty three hours(YAY!!), back home.
Wellington > Sydney > Bangkok > London > Brussels

(mmm King Kong burgers)

On the way home I couldn't wait to wrap my arms around my best friend, boyfriend & family at the airport.

Nice having something so precious to go home to.

I'm so lucky..
